Mathematics in Action: A Multidisciplinary Framework for Developmental Timing and Cell Division Across Animal Species.
Resumo
There are different approaches to multidisciplinary work, particularly regarding how to apply mathematics for understanding biological processes. Here we present a collaborative framework where mathematics and biology combine their strengths to address the question: how is cell cycle elongation controlled during early embryogenesis in metazoans? We demonstrate that cell cycle length (CCL) elongation follows a conserved hyperbolic trajectory approaching a mathematical singularity. This behavior emerges from two biological constraints: resource consumption and chemical kinetics. Using data from multiple organisms and experimental validation in zebrafish, we demonstrate this pattern is conserved rather than species-specific.
This framework links cellular interactions to emergent developmental timing, enabling anaylitical predictions of related phenomena like cell-volume dynamics and gastrulation timing.
