Paulo Barbosa, student in the PhD Program in Mathematics and Applications at the University of Minho, has been awarded the ENNS-Best Paper Award at the 35th International Conference on Neural Networks (ICANN 2026).

The conference took place from September 14 to 17, 2026, in Padua, Italy, and was organized by the European Neural Networks Society (ENNS).

Paulo Barbosa presented the research work entitled “A Dynamic Neural Field Model of Chronotopic Map Formation.” co-authored by Paulo Barbosa (CMAT, University of Minho), Flora Ferreira (CMAT, University of Porto), Estela Bicho (ALGORITMI, University of Minho), and Wolfram Erlhagen (CMAT, University of Minho).

The study contributes to the understanding and modelling of chronotopic map formation in the human brain using dynamic neural field models, bringing together expertise from mathematics, neural networks, and computational modelling.
